The Gift of Encouragement

Our service this morning is hosted by Calvary Memorial United Church, Rev. Lilian Patey presiding.

Prelude: As the Deer Pants For Water — Emily Roe

Welcome

Call to Worship:     Let us give thanks to the loving, caring God. Let us praise God since God wants us to see life in the eyes of Jesus.

May our words and our prayers be acceptable as we come into God’s presence.

Amen

Hymn: We Praise you O God (VU 218 verses 1, 2, & 5)

We praise you, O God, our Redeemer, Creator;

in grateful devotion our tribute we bring.
We lay it before you; we kneel and adore you;

we bless your holy name, glad praises we sing.

We worship you, God of our mothers and fathers,

through trial and tempest, companion and guide.
When perils o’ertake us, you will not forsake us,

but faithful to your promise, you walk by our side.

With voices united our praises we offer
and gladly our songs of thanksgiving we raise.
Our sins now confessing, we pray for your blessing,

to you, our great Redeemer, forever be praise!

Opening Prayer

Reflection: The Gift of Encouragement — Rev. Lilian Patey

Hymn: The Church’s One Foundation (VU 331)

The church’s one foundation is Jesus Christ our Lord;
we are his new creation by water and the Word;
from heaven he came and sought us that we might ever be
his living servant people, by his own death set free.

Called forth from every nation, yet one o’er all the earth;
one charter of salvation: one Lord, one faith, one birth.
One holy name professing and at one table fed,
to one hope always pressing, by Christ’s own Spirit led.

Though with a scornful wonder the world sees us oppressed,
by schisms rent asunder, by heresies distressed,
yet saints their watch are keeping; their cry goes up, ‘How long?’
But soon the night of weeping shall be the morn of song.

Mid toil and tribulation, and tumult of our war,
we wait the consummation of peace forevermore;
till with the vision glorious our longing eyes are blest,
and the great church victorious shall be the church at rest.

We now on earth have union with God the Three in One,
and share through faith communion with those whose rest is won.
Oh, happy ones, and holy! Lord, give us grace that we
like them, the meek and lowly, on high may dwell with thee.

Offering: Blessing of the offerings given during this time apart

Prayer of the people and the Lord’s Prayer

Hymn: Precious Lord (VU 670)

Precious Lord, take my hand,
lead me on, let me stand,
I am tired, I am weak, I am worn;
through the storm, through the night,
lead me on to the light:
take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home.

When my way grows drear,
precious Lord, linger near,
when my life is almost gone,
hear my cry, hear my call, hold my hand lest I fall:
take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home.

When the darkness appears,
and the night draws near,
and the day is past and gone,
at the river I stand,
guide my feet, hold my hand:
take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home.

Benediction:

Closing: Go Now in Peace

Go now in peace, never be afraid
God will go with you each hour of every day
Go now in faith, steadfast, strong and true
Know He will guide you in all you do
Go now in love, and show you believe
Reach out to others so all the world can see
God will be there watching from above
Go now in peace, in faith, and in love
