Meaningful Life

Prelude: River — Barb Julian, Kirby Julian, Emily Roe

Welcome

Call to Worship:

God’s call is for each of us to be alive and well in Christ Jesus.
Let us open ourselves to God’s presence.
May we all worship with joy and sing together.

Hymn: Eternal, Unchanging (VU 223)

Eternal, Unchanging, we sing to your praise:
your mercies are endless, and righteous your ways;
your servants proclaim the renown of your name
who rules over all and is ever the same.

Again we rejoice in the world you have made,
your mighty creation in beauty arrayed,
we thank you for life, and we praise you for joy,
for love and for hope that no power can destroy.

We praise you for Jesus, our Master and Lord,
the might of his Spirit, the truth of his word,
his comfort in sorrow, his patience in pain,
the faith sure and steadfast that Jesus shall reign.

Opening Prayer

Scripture Reading:

Matthew 16:21-28 — Jesus speaks about his suffering and death.

Reflection: Meaningful Life — Rev. Lilian Patey

Hymn: Take My Life and Let it Be (VU 506 – v. 1,3,5)

Take my life, and let it be
consecrated, all for thee;
take my moments and my days;
let them flow in ceaseless praise.

Take my lips, and let them be
filled with messages from thee;
take my intellect, and use
every power as thou shalt choose.

Take my love: and I will pour
at thy feet its treasure store;
take myself, and I will be
ever, only, all for thee.

Offering: Blessing of the offerings given during this time apart

Ministry of Music: Water Flowing from the Mountains — Barb Julian, Kirby Julian, Emily Roe

Prayers of the people and the Lord’s Prayer

Hymn: Make Me a Channel of your Peace (VU 684)

Make me a channel of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me bring your love;
where there is injury, your healing power,
and where there’s doubt, true faith in you:

Make me a channel of your peace:
where there’s despair in life, let me bring hope;
where there is darkness, only light;
and where there’s sadness, ever joy.

O Spirit, grant that I may never seek
so much to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of your peace.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
in giving to all that we receive,
and in dying that we’re born to eternal life.

Benediction:

Closing: Go Now in Peace

Go now in peace. Never be afraid.
God will go with you each hour of every day
Go now in faith, steadfast, strong and true
Know He will guide you in all you do
Go now in love, and show you believe
Reach out to others so all the world can see
God will be there watching from above
Go now in peace, in faith, and in love
