Celebrated by Jewish people for over 3000 years, the seder provides an opportunity for Christians to share in a meal similar to the Last Supper that Jesus shared with his disciples. The word “seder” means order; foods are eaten in an orderly manor as participants hear a re-telling of the story of the Israelites redemption from bondage. It recalls the dramatic and miraculous events that led to their exodus from Egypt. The evening concludes with a celebration of the Lord’s Supper to remember the price Jesus paid for our freedom from the bondage of sin and death.

“Hard to Dance with the Devil on Your Back”

Wednesdays during Lent: March 9 to April 20
7:00 p.m.

The Wednesday Evening Bible Study will begin a seven week Lenten Study on Ash Wednesday, March 9th and conclude the study on the Wednesday of Holy Week, April 20th.   We have chosen a study entitled “Hard to Dance with the Devil on Your Back” that looks at the struggle in the lives of believers while helping us enter the continually crumbling world surrounding Jesus and the disciples in the days preceding Easter.  Each lesson includes a Scripture reference, a reflection, questions for reflection or discussion and a brief prayer.   If you are interested in participating in this study please sign the sheet on the Narthex table so that a book may be ordered for you.  Please email Jan for more information at biblestudy@sjruc.ca

This date is set aside by the U N to recognize the accomplishments of women around the world.  Many will gather to celebrate and to speak out against issues that still keep women poor and ignored in many places today.

You are invited to a Women’s Sabbath Retreat Day
March 5, 2011 from 9am – 3:30pm.

Elaine Graham from Parkminster, Joan Bird and Valerie Pitt from St. James’-Rosemount,
and Kellie McComb from First United invite you to “COME TO THE WELL” to Rest, Renew and Restore as we prepare ourselves for the Journey through Lent.

The retreat will be held at St. James’-Rosemount. There will be time to walk the beautiful outdoor Labyrinth (if the weather co-operates).  This is an event for all women who wish to come and gather at the well. Cost is $20 to cover lunch and art supplies.
