Historic Walkabout
Sunday, May 6 from 2 pm to approx. 4 pm
Meeting Place–Parking Lot beside Homer Watson at the Doon S. traffic lights (1 km BEFORE Tim Hortons and the 401)
Join us as we walk in Lower Doon and learn about the early developments in the area–the grist mill, distillery, Willow Lake Resort, the Red Lion Inn, early churches, some special homes and Mennonite & Scottish settlers in the 1800′s….. Learn stories about Canada’s landscape artist born in Doon and then celebrated worldwide with 1000 canvases. Did you know that the Homer Watson Gallery hosted the Doon School of Fine Arts for 18 years? In this year of the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II, the Gallery is bringing back some of the paintings, on loan from Windsor Castle, for a 5 month period. Our walkabout with Janice will use community trails and the streets not far from the Grand River. It will be stop-and-go for about 2 hours (approx. 4 km). Register online or on the signup sheet in the narthex.
